THE USEFUL BIT

ChatGPT’s New Intelligent UI Turns Answers Into Interactive Tools

ChatGPT’s latest update can do more than explain an answer: it can sometimes turn that answer into something you can click, adjust or use. OpenAI announced its “Intelligent UI” feature on October 7, 2026, alongside GPT-6 in ChatGPT. Depending on the question, a response can include interactive diagrams, charts, forms, buttons or small tools such as a bill splitter or savings calculator.

The idea is simple: instead of only reading about a topic, you may be able to explore it right inside the conversation.

What has changed?

Previously, many ChatGPT answers arrived mainly as paragraphs, lists or static images. With Intelligent UI, ChatGPT can choose a format that fits the task. OpenAI’s examples include an interactive diagram of a seven-speed bicycle, visual explanations of difficult concepts, travel-planning layouts and calculators that let people change values.

For example, a bill-splitting tool could let a group adjust the total, number of people and tip. A study explanation might offer clickable parts of a diagram. A comparison could let you change which factors matter most rather than asking the same question repeatedly.

These are generated within ChatGPT’s regular chat experience; you do not need to build an app or write code to ask for them.

Who can use it?

OpenAI says the global rollout began on October 7 for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans, then expanded to Free and Go plans from October 8. The feature is part of the Chat tab. OpenAI says the models used in ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release. Enterprise access may depend on workplace administrator settings.

The rollout dates have passed, but access can still depend on the account and its settings. If the option is not appearing for a workplace account, an administrator may need to confirm access.

Three prompts worth trying

You do not need special commands. Start with a task and describe how you would like to interact with the answer:

  1. Learn: “Explain how a seven-speed bicycle works with a diagram I can tap to explore each part.”
  2. Plan: “Make a bill-splitting calculator for four people, with an editable tip percentage.”
  3. Compare: “Compare these three laptops using adjustable factors for price, battery life and weight.”

If ChatGPT replies with text only, ask it to make the explanation interactive or add a calculator, diagram or adjustable controls. In its hands-on test, TechRadar found that the feature did not always appear automatically, but a more specific follow-up could help.

One important limitation

An attractive interface is not proof that the facts or calculations are correct. TechRadar noted an estimated battery-life figure in a generated laptop comparison that still needed checking against the manufacturer’s specifications. Treat interactive results as a useful starting point, not a substitute for verification.

Double-check prices, product specifications, dates and calculations before acting on them. A savings calculator can help you explore assumptions; it cannot promise future returns.

Intelligent UI makes ChatGPT’s answers more hands-on, especially when you want to explore a concept, compare options or adjust a plan. Its biggest benefit is not that every answer becomes an app, but that some questions are easier to work through when you can interact with the answer.
